A Christmas Prayer…

Many years ago, after 9-11, I was searching for a Christmas Prayer that captured the spirit of that particular holiday season and the men and women who had volunteered to take up the fight on terrorists on behalf of the rest of us. I could not find one that met my expectations–so I wrote one.
I never ask my readers to share a blog–with this one exception. Please circulate this to your heart’s delight to anyone that has served, knows someone that has served, or has family serving. It’s as important now as it was nineteen years ago…
“A Christmas Prayer…”
Dear Lord I have a special wish, on this Christmas Day.
A wish of thanks and special grace for heroes far away.
For while we celebrate at home and savor freedom’s touch
A world away, a soldier stands—defending oh so much,
Our Christmas tree is lit so bright, sparkling on this moonlit night,
Our children safe in warm embrace, shielded from our nation’s plight,
Oh Lord, we look to you for strength, to reassure our freedom’s might.
And Santa Claus-lest you forget, you too owe these young folks a debt.
For the enemy we face this time around, won’t hesitate to shoot YOU down.
Not long ago you left them toys when they were little girls and boys.
They’re soldiers now in hostile lands, but still could use your loving hands.
So Santa Claus please don’t forget—to leave a gift where a soldier stands.
And happy Birthday Jesus, for those who might forget—the greatest gift
to all mankind was the one your Father sent.
And children listening everywhere, I ask you too, to say a prayer.
It’s Christmas Eve- you’re safe tonight; and I hope you’ll never have to fight.
So one last time my Lord I pray–please keep them safe and harm at bay.
It’s America’s best that are in harm’s way—to secure for us this Christmas Day.
And whatever comes I will not fear for I have faith you’ll guide our way.
